Green Spring Cleaning Tips

Green Spring Cleaning Tips

After being cooped up in a stuffy house all winter long, it’s finally time to fling open the windows, shoo away the cobwebs, and take on your annual spring cleaning. But often, the chemicals found in conventional cleaning products can be more dangerous than the dirt they’re intended to clean. And the way we clean (with lots of disposable paper towels) isn’t exactly earth-friendly. Thankfully, there are many alternatives available that can help you make your home squeaky clean—and green.

April is recycle your computer month in Cuyahoga County

April is recycle your computer month in Cuyahoga County

Cuyahoga County residents can recycle their unwanted computer equipment during Recycle Your Computer Month being held throughout April.  This event is sponsored by the Cuyahoga County Solid Waste District in collaboration with city service departments in Cuyahoga County.

Residents are invited to drop-off their personal computer equipment at over 46 participating city service departments during the month of April.  Equipment that will be accepted includes: CPU’s, monitors, keyboards, mice, printers, terminals, modems, and software.  Cell phones and accessories, and ink printer cartridges will also be accepted.  No televisions or other electronics will be accepted.  Computer donations are tax-deductible. Businesses with large amounts of computers to dispose of should contact RET3 job corp. at (216) 361-9991.

Computers will be sent to RET3 job corp., a non-profit computer recycling and job training organization based in Cleveland.  RET3 job corp. employs over 20 workers who inventory the equipment, erase stored data, and refurbish or recycle the computers depending on the model and the condition.  Newer computers are refurbished and donated to schools.  Since 2003, RET3 job corp. has distributed over 23,000 computers to schools and other non-profit groups in Northeastern Ohio.

The Cuyahoga County Solid Waste Management District has been collecting computers for recycling since 2000 and has kept over 13 million pounds of computers and electronics out of landfills so they could be repurposed and recycled. The next Recycle Your Computer Month will be held in August. For a list of computer recycling locations, visit www.cuyahogaswd.org or call the Cuyahoga County Solid Waste District at (216) 443-3749.
